How to Check Your PNR Status

As far as the transport is concerned, trains are the most common mode. Of course, there are some better alternatives but most people just can not afford them. Trains are considered inexpensive and effective means of transport.

Check Your PNR status

If you are going to travel by train, we suggest that you keep an eye on your PNR status. The status may change as some confirmed tickets are canceled.

You need to check your status over and over again before the big day, especially if your ticket status is still "waiting" or "RAC". In most cases, the "RAC" status changes to "confirmed" in short order, but "Waiting" status may take a bit longer to change. At times, it happens that a ticket does not get confirmed at all.

Alternatives

Although you can go to official website of Railways to check the status, know that the process is slow. Another problem is that you can only check the status if you booked your ticket through their official site, not the third party sites.

So, it's better to look for a convenient alternative. There are many third party sites that can help you check your ticket status. All you need to do is provide your PNR number. In a moment or two, your status will be shown.

What is a PNR status?

The majority of residents are familiar with PNR. But there can be some passengers who may not be familiar with the term. This could be a foreigner who may be on a tour. So, if you are a foreigner, we can help you understand the term better.

In case you do not know, the term PNR is short for "Passenger Name Record". Primarily, this number is stored in the Railways database along with other information, such as the age, name and the number of passengers who are going to travel.

In layman's terms, as soon as you have booked a ticket, you will be assigned a 10-digit number that will be stored in the database right away. It will contain some other information about you as well. Based on the number of passengers confirmed, this status can change. Therefore, it's important to check the status several times to ensure your seat has been confirmed.

The number will contain a lot of details about you, such as your train name, time of travel, date, gender and so on. Your privacy will not be compromised, though. Even if you use some third-party app or website, your personal information will not be compromised. Even if someone gets access to your PNR number, they can only check your status, nothing else. Your important details, such as your name and address will not be shown either.

Apart from your ticket status, nothing else including your gender, age or travel destination will be shared.

In short, if you are going to travel by train, we suggest that you use a good third-party website to check the status of your ticket. It's better if you only use those sites that have good ratings.
