What to See and Do on Maui, Hawaii

If you're planning a vacation to Maui you will need to rent a car. All of the major car rental companies have locations at Kahului Airport. Maui has over 120 miles of coastline and features more than 80 sun-drenched beaches. You'll want to explore Lahaina Town, drive the scenic Road to Hana and discover the best of what Maui has to offer.

If you are visiting Maui between November and May one of the first things you will probably see while driving will be the Humpback whales. The waters of Hawaii are visited by as many as 10,000 Humpback whales every year. You can get closer to these magnificent creatures by booking a whale watching boat tour. Grab your sunscreen and be prepared to take a lot of amazing pictures.

Lahaina Town is one of the most popular places to visit on Maui. When whaling came to an end in the 1860s Lahaina became a sugar plantation town. Tourism has grown dramatically since then and there are many interesting gift shops, unique stores and popular restaurants to choose from. You'll also want to pick up a free walking guide and explore the many historical sites in Lahaina.

One of the most memorable things you will do on Maui is to go snorkeling at Molokini Crater which is inside the Marine Life Conservation District. This amazing snorkel area has over 250 species of exotic fish and is considered one of the top ten dive sites in the world. It's like swimming in a fully stocked gigantic aquarium with perfectly clear water.

A very popular drive on Maui is the Road to Hana, also know as the Hana Highway, with 54 bridges and over 56 miles of tropical paradise. This is an all day event with lots to see so start your trip early in the day and try to be back before nightfall. Just remember that it's the journey not the destination that is important so take your driving time up the long winding road and stop to enjoy the many gorgeous sights along the way.

Maui has a lot to offer its visitors including sailing on a catamaran, swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, parasailing and kayaking. It also has some of the most beautiful beaches on the Hawaiian Islands including Ka'anapali Beach located in West Maui as well as Kihei Beach, Makena Beach and Wailea Beach in South Maui. It's time to book your next vacation and explore one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
